Our story is one of determination, resilience, and a passion for building something that makes a difference — raising standards of safety, quality, and excellence in everything we do. Born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne as the youngest of fifteen children, our founder, Spencer Clift, grew up in a family where hard work, discipline, and community were core values. Following in his brothers’ footsteps, he joined the Arm Forces and proudly served on two operational tours in Iraq. The military instilled qualities that would later define his business—discipline, leadership, and the drive to keep moving forward no matter the challenge. When Spencer left the army in 2007, the transition into civilian life was far from easy. Like many veterans, he faced uncertainty and setbacks. Through perseverance, he carved a new path in the oil and gas industry, gaining invaluable offshore experience. That foundation sparked a bold idea: to create a company that delivered excellence, opened doors for others, and built opportunities where few existed.
The Birth of C&D AccessIn 2014, C&D Access Ltd was founded with a clear mission — deliver outstanding inspection, maintenance, and engineering services with safety and quality at the core. What began as a business specialising in rope access has grown into a trusted global provider, offering solutions in fabrication, welding, non-destructive testing, engineering, and design. We’ve also embraced cutting-edge technology, from UAV drone inspections to advanced testing equipment, making our work safer and more efficient.
